I'm a bit of a personal development junkie. I love books that educate me and push me to be better. In the past 5 years, I've read dozens of "self-help" style books. But there are a few that I find myself recommending to people over and over again because they are seriously changed my life! So, I decided to compile them into one list for all of you (and share with you a bit of why I think each one is worth your time).
One of my best pieces of advice I have for anyone wanting to create balance and wellness in their life is to change your habits. Habits are powerful. If you can discipline yourself to get the right habits in place, everything becomes easier. But we have to be aware of our bad habits too. Bad habits can unknowingly hurt us--- by making us miserable or by pulling us further from our goals. When we ditch the bad habits, we give ourselves room to start new, healthy ones. Here are some common bad habits you should ditch starting TODAY!
Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your kids is to ignore them. There, I said it. I ignore my kids. But I have good reasons. Check them out here and you may just agree.
What if I told you there was one simple thing you could do today to improve your marriage? REALLY. There is. And it'll take you just a few seconds. Find out in this post what this simple (and research-backed) secret is!
Being a present mom is important because we teach our kids how to treat people by how we treat them. If we want our children to respect other people and to be good listeners, we need to model that for them. If we want them to take breaks from working to enjoy people, we need to show them that we can do that. If we don't want our kids to stress about the past or worry about the future but instead be fully engaged in the present, we need to show them what that looks like. If we want our kids to cherish people and be present in their own…
Through motherhood, God has taught me important lessons about life. He has drawn me closer to himself, taught me the meaning of selfless love, and revealed old truths to me in new ways. In this post, you can read 6 lessons I've learned after becoming a mom.
Being a mom can just be HARD, but getting some good habits in place can make your life much easier. I have 3 kids and a career, but I manage to keep myself relatively balanced by maintaining good habits. For me, that means being present with my family and achieving my career goals.
As a mom of 3 girls, one of my strongest hopes is that my kids grow up to be close friends. I want them to love each other deeply, confide in each other, and know that they have built-in BFFs for whatever life might throw at them. The problem is, they fight all the time! After contemplating how my personal behavior might be contributing to the problem, I decided to STOP doing some things to help cultivate strong relationships between my girls. And it's made a huge difference!
People tell me that they're amazed at my discipline and my motivation. But the truth is that I don't have exceptional discipline or motivation. What I do have are some good habits. Those habits have led me to success in many areas and help me to fell well and balanced in my everyday life despite the constant challenges of motherhood. See, if you can harness the power of habit, you don't need to have nearly as much discipline or motivation to do what you know you should do.
